CETE staff to participate at CCSSO’s annual conference

Two Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation (CETE) staff members will participate in a panel discussion at the Council of Chief State School Officers’ 2012 National Conference on Student Assessment in June 2012. CETE staff members Laura Kramer and Cameron Clyne will discuss "Career Pathways Collaborative: On the Road to Career Readiness." Clyne will also serve as panel moderator. The CETE-led multi-state Career Pathways Collaborative is developing a next-generation assessment system around innovative approaches to career, vocational, and technical education. The collaborative was formed to share ideas and resources across states to create high-quality, cost-effective assessments using cutting-edge research.

CETE unveils world’s largest learning map

Likened to the human genome project for education, the Dynamic Learning Maps Alternate Assessment Consortium (DLM), led by the University of Kansas’ Center for Education Testing and Evaluation (CETE), has unveiled the world’s largest learning map, a structure of student learning that includes more than 3,000 skills students should master by high school graduation and more than 5,000 pathways, or connections, between skills. Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation to release new instructional tools

The Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation (CETE) at the University of Kansas will release new formative assessment tools this week, marking the first time CETE releases formative assessment tools that target the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts. This continues CETE’s efforts to assist Kansas schools’ transition to using these educational content standards as the basis for instruction.

KU hosts test fraud conference in May

The Center for Education Testing and Evaluation (CETE) at the University of Kansas will host the Conference on Statistical Detection of Potential Test Fraud on May 23 – 24. This conference will be the first scholarly conference focusing on statistical approaches to identifying test fraud, a growing concern as methods of test administration evolve and new ways of committing test fraud increase.

Delivery of KELPA test forms

The grades K-1 KELPA forms shipped January 26, while the grades 2-12 forms shipped January 27. These forms were shipped via UPS Ground, which has a four-business day ship point to Kansas. The K-1 forms should arrive on February 1. The grades 2-12 forms should be arriving on Thursday, February 2. Packages will arrive at the district offices for public schools and directly to private schools.

Colorado third state to join collaborative to develop innovative new assessment system for career education

The Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation (CETE) at the University of Kansas announces that Colorado has joined the collaborative of educational experts working to develop the Career Pathways Assessment System (cPass). cPass is a new, innovative assessment for determining students’ career readiness. This tool will use computer-based tests with innovative item types and performance assessments to help students and states compete in an ever-changing global economy and ensure a capable and effective workforce.

Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation to hold test fraud conference in May

The Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation will hold the “Conference on Statistical Detection of Potential Test Fraud” on May 23 and 24 at the University of Kansas, Lawrence campus. Though test fraud is a topic of growing public concern, this is the first ever scholarly conference focusing on statistical approaches for identifying such problems. Conference topics include current statistical methods used by testing organizations to identify potential test fraud, and research into new statistical approaches.

Milestones exceeded on project to create innovative assessment of students with disabilities

Progress has been made one year into a five-year grant awarded in 2010 to the University of Kansas Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation (CETE) by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. The $22 million grant — the largest in KU history — was awarded to fund development and evaluation of a new generation of alternate assessments for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities — the Dynamic Learning Maps Alternative Assessment System (DLM). Thirteen states are participating in the project: Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
