Windows 7 and Windows VistaFor Windows 7 and Windows Vista users, if you want to install KCA 5.4, first download KCA 5.4 installer for windows then using an administrator account install KCA 5.4. After installing KCA 5.4 please run KCA with administrator privileges by right clicking KCA icon and choosing “run as an administrator”. Only then the KCA software will get write privileges, this is because the program files folder in Windows 7 and Windows Vista is set to be read only (as default) for all user level applications. As part of installation please run KCA preference (preference.exe) using administrator account and choosing “run as administrator” option.
If you have already installed KCA 5.3 on Windows vista or Windows 7, in order to update to KCA 5.4 please check if “Kansas Assessments” folder is created under C:\Users\youraccount\AppData\Local\VirtualStore, if “Kansas Assessments” is created there please delete it before installing KCA 5.4. On Windows 7 and Windows Vista, in order for KCA 5.3 to automatically update itself to KCA 5.4 please run KCA 5.3 using an administrator account / administrator privileges by right clicking on KCA icon and choose “run as an administrator”. Only then the KCA software will get write privileges and in turn will successfully update itself to KCA 5.4. This is because the program files folder in Windows 7 and Windows Vista is set to be read only (as default) for all user level applications.
On Windows Vista and Windows 7, KCA software will be able to update automatically only if it is run using administrator account / administrator privileges. Non-administrator user accounts on Windows 7 and Windows Vista will be prompted to contact school system administrator or technical staff to have KCA related updates installed successfully.
