Kansas Writing Instruction and Evaluation Tool (KWIET) — Phase III

Phase III of the KWIET will be available August 22, 2011.

What to do to prepare for the KWIET:

  1. Submit student test records via KIDS prior to submitting SCRS data in step 2.
  2. Check with your district personnel to ensure that your SCRS data has been submitted to the KIDS system. This will need to be done before you can access KWIET. For more information, or questions about SCRS you can contact the KIDS helpdesk 785-296-7935.   3. Request a teacher account for www.cete.us. You will use this to log into the KWIET Teacher interface.
  4. Work with your building/district technical staff to install the KWIET application for students. Also, you need to have access to the KWIET teacher website listed below. A shortcut can be created on your desktop to allow easier access for teachers.
  5. Review the KWIET Teacher's Guide and KWIET Student Tutorial, and review the KWIET Practice Test to familiarize yourself with the KWIET features.
  6. Read the information listed below to ensure a successful KWIET experience!

KWIET Student Application

The KWIET student application will lock down the computer, and will not allow access to other applications until the student logs out of KWIET.

Windows Installation Instructions
Download and double-click kwiet.exe, and follow the installation instructions.
For 64 bit machines, please download and double-click kwiet64.exe, and follow the instructions.

Mac Installation Instructions
Double-click the .dmg file to open the KWIET disk image. Drag and drop the KWIET icon into the Applications folder.

Known KWIET Issues:

  • Cut/Copy/Paste features in the KWIET text editor can not but accessed using the text editor buttons. Due to browser security features, users will need to use Ctrl + C for Copy function, Ctrl + V for paste function, and Ctrl + X for Cut function.
  • Due to browser security settings, links to close some browser windows will not work. Teachers may need to close the browser using the X in the upper corner of their screen.
