Browser Information for Student Application


It is recommended that students access the KWIET® tool via a web-browser called the KITE Browser. This browser replaces all versions of KWIET® Browser. Please carefully review the scenarios below to determine the appropriate action.

Please note: Teachers do not access KWIET® through the KITE Browser. See the "Resources" tab for more information.

Scenario Action
The computer does not have a version of the KWIET®
Browser installed.

Install the KITE Browser
The computer has a version of the KWIET® Browser
from before July 2012 installed.		 1. Uninstall the KWIET® Browser
2. Install the KITE Browser
The computer has a version of the KWIET® Browser and the computer will be used to administer the cPass pilot. 1. Uninstall the KWIET® Browser
2. Install the KITE Browser
The computer has the July 2012 version of the KWIET® Browser
installed and the computer will not be used to administer the cPass pilot.		 1. Uninstall the KWIET® Browser

*Use the July 2012 version of the KWIET® Browswer.

*Users with a KWIET® Browser should upgrade to the new KITE Browser to ensure the highest level of security. Users who continue with the July 2012 version of the KWIET® Browser and who are running Mac OS X should be advised that in certain circumstances it is possible for students to leave the KWIET® tool while a task is in progress. Proctors of the task should be aware of this possibility if students are working in a Mac environment.

KITE Browser Installation

To install the KITE Browser, please follow the instructions below. Once launched, the KITE Browser prevents students from accessing unauthorized webpages or applications on the student's computer. The student should select the "Kansas Writing" button to access the KWIET® tool.

  • Supported browsers:
     
    • Firefox 10.0.5 and above
    • Safari 4 and 5
    • IE 8 and above
  • Supported platforms:
     
    • 32 bit and 64 bit
    • Windows: Windows XP, Vista, and 7
    • Mac OS X: 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 (Only Intel-based Macs are supported)
