Download the new version now.

KCA - Windows Users
If you are currently running KCA 5.3 then the update to KCA 5.4 will be available through the auto update process and will run when the KCA software is opened, unless update permissions have been restricted or you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

Windows 7 and Vista Users
For Windows 7 and Windows Vista users, if you want to install KCA 5.4, first download KCA 5.4 installer for windows then using an administrator account install KCA 5.4. After installing KCA 5.4 please run KCA with administrator privileges by right clicking KCA icon and choosing “run as an administrator”. Only then the KCA software will get write privileges, this is because the program files folder in Windows 7 and Windows Vista is set to be read only (as default) for all user level applications.

If you have already installed KCA 5.3 on Windows vista or Windows 7, in order to update to KCA 5.4 please run KCA 5.3 using an administrator account / administrator privileges by right clicking on KCA icon and choose “run as an administrator”. Only then the KCA software will get write privileges and in turn will successfully update itself to KCA 5.4. This is because the program files folder in Windows 7 and Windows Vista is set to be read only (as default) for all user level applications. More information about how to do this will follow closer to the release of the update.

KCA - Mac Users

Supported Systems-
CETE currently supports Mac OS 10.3.9-10.5.6. Starting this year CETE will support Mac OS versions 10.5.8-10.6.2.

Mac - Updating from KCA 5.3 to KCA 5.4
The auto update process for KCA will work for Mac OS X 10.3.9 to 10.5.6.

The auto update process for KCA WILL NOT work for Mac versions 10.5.8 or higher.

This is because the automatic update feature of KCA 5.3 requires java 1.4.2 and Apple removed this version of java from the Mac OS 10.5.8 and above. If KCA 5.3 is installed on Mac OS 10.5.8 and higher, in order to update to KCA 5.4 please uninstall KCA 5.3 and install KCA 5.4 version. Automatic update feature in KCA 5.4 version will be compatible with different java version, so which means all KCA versions starting KCA 5.4 will be able to automatically update itself when KCA software is run on all supported Mac OS versions.

Reminder – Screen Resolution
The minimum screen resolution requirement for KCA is 800 x 600. Users who try to run KCA on systems with resolution less than 800 x 600 will receive an error message and will not be able to run the system.

Last year CETE provided a work around for a few districts that would allow the system to run. Per KSDE we will again post a work around on our website.

Please Note: KSDE and CETE both advise against using this work around.
This patch will allow the system to run but will require students to scroll in order to see items in their entirety. This would make for a sub-optimal testing experience for the student and as a result may lead to lower student performance.

Please make sure any new hardware meets the existing screen resolution requirement as future enhancements will negate the work around within the next few years.

LCS - Windows Users
CETE will support LCS 4.6 version on Windows 7 and Windows vista. On Windows vista and Windows 7 after you install LCS 4.6 please use an administrator account and right click on “Install_LCS_Service.bat” and choose “run as administrator”.

If you have already installed LCS 4.5 on Windows vista or Windows 7, in order to update to LCS 4.6 please uninstall LCS 4.5 and install LCS 4.6. To uninstall LCS 4.5 on windows 7 or windows vista right click on “Uninstall_LCS_Service.bat” and choose “run as administrator” option.

LCS - Mac Users
CETE will support LCS 4.6 on Mac OS versions 10.3.9 – 10.6.2.
